Mum Delegates Meal Prep To Someone Else. Happiest She’s Ever Been.

Mum Delegates Meal Prep To Someone Else. Happiest She’s Ever Been.

Can I let you in on a little secret?

I don't actually cook anything during the week. I’m married with two kids (twin toddlers) but the most I do is boil some eggs or cut up some carrot sticks and plop some hummus dip on it for them. I have home cooked meals in the freezer that I can pull out and re-heat when needed but mostly I just prepare snack platters for our ravenous offspring and to be honest, that’s about all I can manage during the week anyway.

Allow me to explain...

When I was pregnant with our sons, I got whacked with a generous serving of “CBSS”

Which is of course short for: Can't-Be-Stuffed-Syndrome. I had extreme fatigue, breathlessness and anxiety almost as soon as I waddled out of my 10-week dating scan. Still a bit in shock from hearing the overly-enthusiastic-sonographer-lady tell me I was carrying TWINS.

I quickly learnt that in order to survive, I was going to have to get better at a few things:

  • Asking for help;
  • Delegating certain tasks to others

While there are lots of things I temporarily ‘delegated’ (I really milked the whole twin pregnancy thing) I’m only here to tell you about one of those things; FOOD. Which brings me to Activate Foods.

Let me start by saying, I have probably tried ALL the ready made meals I could get my hands on. We’ve stuck with Activate Foods meals for the last 3 years for 2 main reasons:

  1. They actually taste good. Not just promise to and then leave you bitterly disappointed (I won’t name any names, ‘OTHER READY MADE MEALS’).
  2. Importantly, they’re actually healthy. Not chockas full of sodium & other nasties.

Our working week is very busy, we’ve both got a lot going on and I choose to take ‘meal prep’ off my plate (lol - pun intended). I cook a lot over the weekends when my hubby is home to help with our tots but I find it really helps to have ‘grab and go’ food in the fridge during the week.

I know what you’re thinking:

  • You don’t know ME though, I bet I’ll still be hungry;
  • I bet I won’t actually eat them;
  • I’m not sure I can afford it;
  • I feel like you’re lazy though? I can cook MY family's meals. I’m more organised than you.

My answer to you will remain the same:

“Why don’t you just try them and see for yourself?”

Except for that last one we’ll call ‘Karen’ who suggested I’m lazy. I’m not lazy, Kaz babe… I’m just protective of my precious time.

There’s no obligation to continue if you decide it’s not for you - there’s no lock in orders.

Who knows, maybe unlike me, you don’t actually care for all that extra time you could spend catching up on Netflix or painting your toenails or building block towers with your kid so they can knock them straight over again. Maybe you enjoy being chained to your kitchen. Sharing that mum-hack for anyone else like me. Activate Foods is my secret to juggling mum-life with work-life with having a good time ;)

If you want to give it a shot but you don't know where to start, might I suggest a few of my favourite flavours?

  • Mexican Burrito Bowl (kid friendly)
  • Stir Fry Noodle with Chinese Pork (A tiny kick of chilli)
  • Beef & Porcini Sausages with Bubble & Squeak (kid friendly)
